Ed Miliband vows Labour will prevent excessive profiteering by health companies

If elected Ed Miliband has promised he will impose a profits cap at 5% so that health companies, with NHS contracts above £500,000, would be forced to reimburse the NHS for any returns above the level of the cap.

Miliband also said a Labour government would prevent cherry-picking of contracts to stop companies getting over-reimbursed if they only treat simple cases and to ensure that NHS hospitals that have to treat all cases are not short-changed.

Miliband said the new profits cap, alongside the commitment to extra funding for the NHS already announced, represented a double-lock to protect the NHS.
