Sean Woodcock, Labour Leader on the district council, is tabling a motion to the full council next week (19/12/15), proposing that a study of the impact of free parking in Banbury and Bicester is carried out early next year.
Sean says, “Everyone is concerned about the future prosperity of the town centres for both residents, visitors and businesses.
Revenues to the authority from district council car parks and from commercial rental income in particular at Castle Quay, Banbury, have taken a hit in recent months.
This proposal is to make Thursdays a free parking day for the whole of February next year and see what difference it makes. New and proposed retail outlets and those already on the edge of town, provide free parking and Banbury and Bicester town centres are losing out.”
